Dr. Cameron Hassall

Dr. Hassall was a long tenured member of the Krigolson Lab. He started in the lab while Dr. Krigolson was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of British Columbia. Following this, he came with Dr. Krigolson to Dalhousie University and completed his MSc and moved with the lab to the University of Victoria where he completed his PhD. "Cam" then went on to a Postdoctoral Fellow position at Oxford University and is now an Assistant Professor at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Canada.

Cam has too many accolades to cover here, he has published papers in top journals such as Nature, Cortex, and the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and he won every award possible.

                                                                     Anthony Pluta
After earning his BSc in Psychology from the University of Phoenix, Anthony “AJ” Pluta came to the TAN Lab to do a MSc where he studied the effects of cognition on sports performance. AJ found that beta power recorded before a baseball player went up to bat could predict several qualities of that batter’s swing. His results provided the first quantitative evidence for not overthinking your performance when at the plate, and caught attention from CBC, the Times Colonist, and Quirks and Quarks.

Prior to his time in the TAN Lab, AJ had a successful career in professional baseball. He spent 13 years playing baseball in three countries including playing for six MLB teams in their affiliates. Since his playing days, Anthony has transitioned into a decorated coaching career, working as a coach for the Canadian Women’s National Baseball team and the Team BC Canada Cup team. Recently, Anthony has started his own business where he holds the position of VP of Marketing and Director of Baseball Operations at Speed Mechanics; a multipurpose gym that uses strength and conditioning as well as all sport specific training to train youth athletes.
As noted above, Anthony’s thesis work garnered national media attention some of which is linked to here:

Adam Dmytriw
Adam Dmytriw MD MSc is a resident physician in the Department of Medical Imaging, University of Toronto. His main area of research is diagnostic and therapeutic neuroradiology.

Currently, his diagnostic projects include investigations into diffusion-weighted imaging and its applications in brain and head & neck oncology. His interventional research comprises the study of intracranial aneurysms and vascular malformations of the central nervous system, as well as and percutaneous spine intervention. He is also involved in a series of large-scale research low-dose computed tomography and magnetoencephalography.

Adam's investigation at the Neuroeconomics Lab was centred around the implicit visuomotor response, the results of which were presented locally as well as internationally at the meeting of the American Society of Functional Neuroradiology. The paper is forthcoming.

His goal is to apply his passion for neuroradiology towards novel diagnostic and therapeutic ends, as well as contribute to teaching and the medical humanities.

Hayley May Neimy

Hayley is a recent graduate from California State University, Northridge with an M.S. in Applied Behavior Analysis (Honors), as well as a newly certified Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA). However, prior to this she was a key member of the Krigolson Lab in the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia where she worked on a number of EEG and fMRI projects. Hayley's work resulted in a second author publication, "Cognitive Load Impacts Error Evaluation Within Medial-Frontal Cortex".

Hayley is currently conducting research with Dr. Martha Pelaez investigating a training model to facilitate the acquisition of a variety of early infant social skills, including: social referencing, joint-attention, vocalizations & preverbal language, and eye contact, as a possible preventative intervention for the later development of language and behavior disorders.
