IMPORTANT!
The information here only applies to the 2016 MUSE pictured on the right. It is easily identifiable by the shape and the logo written in BLUE. InterAxon calls this the "Original Muse" |
Here is a tutorial using the MUSE with MATLAB to conduct the experiment and recording with a program called Lab Streaming Layer (LSL).
Some important things for using the MUSE in general:
- Make sure that when you take out a MUSE for experiments, you record that you have signed it out
- Once you are done with the device, put it back in the slot you took it from and record that you have returned it
- Some participants will have long hair, in this case ask that they tie it into a ponytail or a bun
- If they don't have a hair tie, there are some that MUSE supplies with each unit that you can provide
- Some participants have glasses, ask that they take them off during the impedance check
- If they need them to see the screen they can put them on over the MUSE before the experiment starts
- Some participants have large metal earrings, if the earring is in contact with the MUSE you can cover it with a bandaid to prevent signal interference
- Whenever you are done using a MUSE device, immediately plug it into a charging cord
- It is important that the participant does not talk or move around too much during the experiment, so make sure that they are comfortable before starting
MUSE LSL
Some important things when using MUSE LSL:
- You will need a bluetooth dongle to connect the MUSE to the Macbook you are using
- The lab has plenty of these in USB form, plug one into the Macbook before running the experiment
- Before Starting the experiment, make sure that Lab Recorder has started recording data
- Make sure the participant keeps the MUSE on their head until you have stopped the recording in Lab Recorder
- Unless you are testing in special circumstances, good data is more important than rushing through your impedance check
- Take the time to ensure that all channels are recording good data
- If you have to, take off the MUSE and put it on again in a better position
